Hyundai SmartSense® safety features help your teen driver stay safe behind the wheel. If they’re commuting to and from high school, they should focus on building healthier driving habits. Route 1 Hyundai is here to help with these essential tips.
Encourage Them to Avoid Driving While Tired
One of the most effective ways teen drivers can stay safe behind the wheel is to avoid driving if they’re tired. Increased drowsiness while driving increases the risk of collisions. To avoid this, encourage them to pull over for a break or switch drivers during longer trips.
Prioritize Checking Their Surroundings
Teen drivers should prioritize awareness of their surroundings to help them stay safe on the road. In addition to keeping their eyes on the road, encourage them to check their mirrors to stay aware of vehicles approaching from the sides. Hyundai SmartSense® technologies can also provide added assistance in certain situations. For example, Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist can help when changing lanes, while the available Surround View Monitor provides additional visibility around the vehicle when parking.
Limit Driving Distractions
Distracted driving is common among teen drivers, putting them at risk if their attention drifts away from the road ahead. Minimizing distractions can help them avoid potential collisions. Effective methods include putting their phone away, minimizing unnecessary use of the audio or infotainment system, limiting passengers, and avoiding eating while driving.
Practice Driving in Different Conditions
Practicing in different conditions can also help maximize teen drivers’ safety. Start in quiet neighborhoods with minimal traffic before taking on the highway. Consider practicing in light rain or snow to get them accustomed to slowing down and braking gently on slippery roads.
